India which has had the noble tradition of adoring women and ensuring their exalted position in society and considering such a dispensation as the paradigm of good governance since time immemorial, as enacted the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment Acts, indented to provide one- third of seats and posts for women in the local self government institutions as a first step towards the sacred ideal of attaining women empowerment at all levels.
