In July, I had the opportunity to attend an event organized by my colleagues for our Women’s Leadership Group. The group holds monthly events that are sometimes professional and sometimes for leisure. It is a creative way to focus on women’s professional issues, along with bonding in a casual setting. It is the best way to balance the importance of women in the workforce, along with relieving our work stress. This event was hosted at the Ice Cream Jubilee at the Navy Yard.

As someone who recently started her first big-girl job, this was a great chance for me to bond with my amazing co-workers over everyone’s favorite dessert, ice cream. As we created new ice cream flavors together, we connected over this enjoyable activity.

Ice cream has always held a special place in my heart, and well, my stomach too. Ice cream was always the best way to treat yourself after an accomplishment or after a crappy day. The delicious cold dessert melts in your mouth with every bite and allows for an instant excitement to your day. You know what they say, the best way to a girl’s heart is through her stomach.

Jubilee gave us the chance to not only taste numerous unique flavors, but also let us make our own creations. We got to use a vanilla base and add anything to it, like cocoa, pound cake, lemon zest, and even bourbon. Yes, bourbon. What makes ice cream better? Alcohol. There were even spicy flavors like cayenne pepper. I had no idea certain flavors use spices, who would have thought?

As we waited for our masterpieces to be blended, we got to try all their special flavors. Everything from Thai Iced Tea, to Caramel Popcorn, to a Gin & Tonic Sorbet; they honestly have it all. Jubilee has found a way to appreciate such unique flavors for us to indulge in. I am still in shock at how flavors like black pepper and habanero can be used in dessert. Just as crazy as it is to hear that gin and rum can also be added. You would think such potent tastes like these could ruin the entire flavor, when in reality, it just proves that anything is really possible. Alcohol and spices blended with ice cream, sounds like all of my favorites rolled into one.

Once we created our delicious masterpieces, they let us take a pint home. They even thought about us to the point where they gave us dry ice for our take-home ice cream to make sure it did not melt on the way home. Clearly, Jubilee really thinks about their customers every step of the way which shows a unique personalized business model, which is exactly why people keep coming back to them.

Jubilee Ice Cream has its own rich background. The owner, Victoria, started out making ice cream in her kitchen, and now is running her own successful business. She has a unique background in corporate law, yet she kept her dream to make ice cream alive by making it whenever she had time. It was how she relaxed. She decided to make a stark career shift and pursue her dream of making ice cream as a living. She started small by selling her flavors to grocery stores and flipped that into a successful business.

The business has grown so much that there are 2 locations along with being on Postmates and Uber Eats. Yes, you can get ice cream delivered! Not only has Jubilee taken over the

Navy Yard, but it has been voted the best ice cream in numerous papers, like in USA Today and the Food Network.

The ice cream also uses all-natural cream and milk coming from local creameries native to DC. This is one of the ways Jubilee ensures their product is the best, by checking their ingredients every step of the way. The purity of the ice cream really shows in the taste. This growing business is taking every step to satisfy their reputation of the Best Ice Cream in DC.

It is easy to acknowledge Jubilee’s business model and appreciate their work. Victoria has made a solid living out of her passion and flipped it into a successful business. Living in a male-dominated industry, it is remarkable to see a women graciously running her successful business. As Queen B would say it, who runs the world? Girls!

As a newbie, bonding with the girls in the office really helped me feel welcome to this new world. Starting a new life is honestly terrifying. Adulthood is nothing like the life I had when I was at home with my parents in Jacksonville or when I was in college in Atlanta. Adulthood is full of responsibilities, chores and bills, all while trying to find time to hang out with friends and get some sleep. How is anyone supposed to do this? I wish I could say ice cream is the answer. Sometimes, it is. And for the rest of the time, ice cream can make all those burdens a little easier, and a little sweeter.

Now, go watch Netflix and grab a pint of Caramel Popcorn from Ice Cream Jubilee because there is no better way to end a great night!
