One of our first challenges this year was Polkadot Encode’s ink! Hackathon we decided to participate in. We’re still waiting to hear if we won, but one thing’s for sure: we had a blast! The experience was so much more enjoyable than we ever imagined, and we learned a ton along the way. In our team, we had Pierina (Ink Smart contract), Aurora (full stack developer), and Luuu (art and social media).

What is ink!?

Ink! is used by developers in the Polkadot and Substrate ecosystem to build efficient, high-performance smart contracts and decentralized applications for Wasm virtual machines, which represent an alternative to Ethereum-based (EVM/Solidity) smart contract systems.

What did we hack?

We’ve crafted an NFT collection dedicated to the ‘Women of Polkadot.’ This collection allows every woman to mint her own NFT as a symbolic representation of her presence and contribution. At ‘Women of Polkadot,’ our core mission is to champion inclusivity, aiming to amplify female participation within the Polkadot ecosystem. Through these NFTs, we hope to not only celebrate but also inspire more women to become active contributors and leaders in the blockchain space.

Women of Polkadot collection will be launching SOON!

How did we do it?

We began by utilizing the Inkathon template as our foundation. From there, we enhanced the wallet interaction to better tailor it to our requirements. We deployed our smart contracts on both the Aleph Zero and Astar Shiden testnets.

A unique feature of our system is that users can only mint our smart contracts after backend approval. Once a user’s wallet details are verified and approved, we then send them WMN tokens. With these tokens, they can proceed to mint the NFT.

Watch our submission video and wish us luck!
