Women Startup Competition semifinal — Vienna, 2017 March

In respect to the previous Women Startup Competition pre-finals all across seven countries, the Vienna event overcome expectations with over 120 applications within only one month. The team had a hard time selecting those nine teams who had a change to present their ideas in front of the jury at the T-Mobile headquarters in Vienna.

The competition’s Pre-final events are currently calling for ambitious female entrepreneurs with pre-final events held in 7 countries, including Finland, Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the UK. The online application is open for all teams until the 4th of April! The only requirement set by the organizers is, that the founders must have at least an equal gender diversity representation (50%-50%) within the entrepreneurial team.

„Pitch by pitch I’ve realized how talented and hard-working women joined the startup area. “But how do you make money?”, “Are you sure you are targeting the right target group?” are still the usual questions.” — said Gábor Dehelán — WSC business coach

First came the team of Fashion Touri, whom also enchanted the audience with their -to the point- handy and creative fashion navigation app , which smartly connect sightseeing attractions with local fashion gems –They also took the audience price! Innovational ideas landed on the 2nd and 3rd place too, just like MTOP social job hunter service, or Yatta, the new generation of home decorating assistant. Women Startup Competition had always been proud to present social innovations and services that are supposed to help the integration of people with disadvantages and helps them find new career opportunities. MTOP is just like those: MTOP selects refugees holding academic degrees in business, technique or IT, prepares them in 200 hours of training for their job entry and builds bridges to companies. Therefore MTOP paves the way to hidden qualified employees. Once in the job MTOP alumni become multiplications of integration and show the potential of integration. We are also proud to introduce VON, a Slow Fashion organic brand run by disadvantaged local people. Design and personalized fashion oriented, and medical innovation oriented ideas had just as well present at the Vienna competition. Two great examples are Nevos, who gave people the opportunity to test their blood from at home, and Women Security Austria is, providing women and man the opportunity to work together in security services. According to the participating teams, the jury’s feedback was rather encouraging, while others appreciated the laid back atmosphere and the opportunity to carelessly network.

Since 2014, Women Startup Competition has given numerous opportunities for female founders and gender diverse startups, to expand their businesses and meet the investors of their dreams. With prizes like co-working office space and personal mentoring, tickets to several international conferences; WSC offers a chance to network and possible promotion for all lucky participants. In regards to the application, there are no thematic requirements: any idea owner, entrepreneur or startup can apply who believe that their idea might appeal to their target audience and attract investors. All applications are welcome! Introducing the winners of the Vienna pre-final:

Since 2014, Women Startup Competition has received and professionally supported more than 300 applications from 4 continents. This year we already reached over 200 pre-registrations — and we hope this will further encourage young talents to follow this path! At the 4th Women Startup competition, we are proud to welcome a growing number of innovative, gender diverse entrepreneurs and startups to participate in this life changing experience. The 4th Women Startup Competition brings many new changes for participants, sponsors and followers of the movement. By extending the structure, beyond the online selection process and the week-long workshop-based mentoring and Demo Day teams will have an opportunity to pitch their ideas to the mentors in person.

“The Vienna pre-final easily overcame our expectations, so we had the honor of selecting those fascinating nine teams from nearly 120 applicants who were pitching in front of full house audience. It was a high spirited event with the audience living and breathing with the teams, it is really hard to ask for more than that. I believe this helped everyone to reach their optimum in presentation style, but it gave the jury a hard time to be honest to choose from the enthusiastic pitches. The venue, with it’s 3000 sq meter co working space and high tech equipment and furnishing embodied the spirit of the competition. Neither the winners, nor the organizer team could skip out on the confetti rain.” — Tamas Müller, founder

So we call out for gender diverse startups & entrepreneurs to fill out their application today — and we encourage every startup out there, to urgently find female business partner(s) before the application deadline. For more info and updates please stay tuned at www.womenstartupcompetition.com
