“Show me a successful individual and I’ll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life. I don’t care what you do for a living — if you do it well I’m sure there was someone cheering you on or showing the way. A mentor.” — Denzel Washington

Keeping this in mind, Women Who Code, New Delhi initiated the Mentorship Program, as a platform to connect undergraduate women in STEM fields to women leaders in technology with an objective of furthering their professional development, expanding their professional network and gaining support in the field and their workplace.

Primary Objective

If a window of opportunity appears, don’t pull down the shade — Tom Peters

A lot of times, we all shy away from jumping aboard when an opportunity presents itself. At times, we even fail to recognize those opportunities because we are often consumed in thoughts like maybe, next time, or feel that we aren’t good enough. Through this program, we want all the participants to not only identify opportunities, but also learn to strategize on how to grab those, rather than spending your time and energy in evaluating their self-doubt.

Don’t be afraid to be ambitious about your goals. Hard work never stops. Neither should your dreams. — Dwayne Johnson

It’s important to be hardworking, but it is more important to never let the spark in you burn out. In times, when things aren’t working out or we are facing multiple rejections, it requires a lot of effort to continue on the same path, and that too with confidence. At the end of this program, we want all the participants to be inspired to continue working towards the goals they have and also not shy away from setting higher goals for themselves.

To bring out the best versions of all those who are a part of this initiative

We want everyone who is associated with this program to understand their best qualities and how those qualities can help them in their career advancement. Be it the organizers, mentors or mentees, we aspire for everyone to learn more about themselves through this initiative.

The Agenda

Next, coming up to the agenda of this 5 week initiative:

Week 1

To understand what you seek through this initiative, and sharing that with your mentors to help them channelize what they have to offer.

Week 2–4

To discuss various internship, scholarship and open source opportunities with your mentors and working on the small tasks assigned by your mentors.

Week 5

Learning to create an online presence for yourself, and reaching out to tech-communities which match your interests.

At the end of each week, you will be writing a blog article summarizing what you learnt in that week, therefore creating an environment of collaborative learning where all of you can learn through each other’s experience.

The Expectations

On analyzing the various responses we have received, this is what the expectations of all of you look like from this program:

While we would absolutely love to help you in these areas, the main goal of the program is for you to understand how to look for opportunities in these areas on your own. The objective of this program is not only to introduce you to existing opportunities, but also to help you be self-dependent when looking out for opportunities!

Code of Conduct

We expect all the participants of this program to adhere to the Code of Conduct which can be found at https://goo.gl/qxS9J5

Also, all the communications as part of this initiative must loop in delhi@womenwhocode.com, for us to maintain a check on the program as well as to help all of you when needed!

We will be officially launching this program at the Networking Mixer on 20 January 2019 at SocialCops! See you there!
