This month we are pleased to shine the spotlight on Shanelle Webster! Shanelle has been a member of Women Who Code DFW for the better part of the last year and has been an integral member from the beginning — always eager to help empower women and other minority groups at work and within our community as a whole.

She first joined WWCode DFW in an effort to meet more women in the field and find a group of peers and mentors to whom she could relate. We’re happy to call her one of our friends and proud to see her grow into a mentor role for our community as a whole.

Shanelle is currently a Software Developer at Ambit Energy in Downtown Dallas, but that’s far from where her journey started. After working at non-profit after her college degree, Shanelle pursued her MBA in order to then go onto to help grow small businesses’ digital presence. It was during her job in multi-media sales that she discovered her true fascination in learning what made the technology behind the digital advertising work.

After thorough research and consideration, Shanelle took the leap of faith in attending the boot camp DevMountain. She’ll always give an honest report that coding boot camps are a lot of hard work, but it’s evident they saw her work ethic and shining personality when they decided to hire her as a full-time Student Success Manager.

In this role, she made regular efforts of recruiting other women to WWCode meetups as well as seeking more ways to celebrate and recognize the need for creating an empowering environment for all developers — especially those who rank in the minority of the field.

When she’s not coding or working, she typically can either be found at the gym, working on developing herself personally, or spending quality time with her husband and friends.

Her current goals include learning how to program in C# for on the job tasks as well as finding additional role models to help her grow as a developer. She’s happy to be a part of WWCode and be actively involved in encouraging, learning and growing with women across the organization.

We’re so lucky and happy to have Shanelle as a member of our chapter. We’re excited to see all the amazing personal and professional coding projects she makes over the next few years and we’re glad to have her be a shining example to women across DFW interested in taking the leap of faith to become a professional developer.
