Hiring is not what it used to be.

There are a growing number of software engineers worldwide, which means there are many more candidates for companies to weed through when trying to find the perfect candidate.

At a large corporation, a hiring manager may only see a handful of resumes out of hundreds (or even thousands) of applications that underwent a rigorous process before arriving at their desks.

Over the past five years, I’ve read countless resumes, interviewed over a hundred, and hired around 30 software engineers. I’m grateful for the steps that occur to weed people out before they get to me.

But sometimes, I wonder if the right candidate slipped through the cracks.
