This is a post I shared on LinkedIn previously and decided to move it to Medium world. ;)

🦸🏻‍♀️ Let’s bring more women to the forefront of tech. Communities like EBAN — European Business Angels Network are upturning the game.

🇪🇺 In October 2022, EBAN hosted a summit in Brussels to take a stock of the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Europe while providing a glimpse into the future of angel investing.

No assumptions, only data. Here are my highlights from the summit:

Selma Prodanovic and me

Diversity and Inclusion:

1️⃣ 30% of the attendees were women. Year over year numbers show a marked improvement to make the ecosystem more diverse and inclusive.

2️⃣ For a gender balanced angel investing ecosystem, a manifesto has been launched. It aims to triple the number of female investors by 2030. Currently it is 10% and has been stagnating for the last ten years.

3️⃣ 🎤Selma Prodanovic announced the manifesto (link in the comments) at Women Leadership Breakfast where we had also men in the room cheering for women. Loved that mini gathering and her strong stance on the issue.

4️⃣ A big shout-out to Tom Schulz who has been empowering me to join the angel investment world. 🙏🏼

Investment in deep tech and science driven startups:

5️⃣ It’s time to better leverage our collaborations among the universities/research centres, industry and private investors.

6️⃣ More “Let’s do it together!” mindset, less risk-averse culture.

Overall:

7️⃣ There is a hockey stick increase in angel investment since 2020. Almost 3X market growth in the past 10 years. And 90% growth in investment from 2020 to 2021.

8️⃣ Incredible founders and investors are shaping the future of our planet: Interstellar Lab, founded by Barbara BELVISI, was the winner of the “ScaleUp of the Month” competition and Swaplanet, co-founded by Sherif Barakat, Helena and Jimmy, won the pitching competition “Innovation Showcase”. The Upright Project, HarvestAi and many more…

So..

🚀 As Claudio Rojas 🇨🇦 said, “Systematic problems are systematic. You need to imagine the system again.” Let’s join the forces for a better Europe and a better world.
