The FTC’s New Website Rule is Coming, Are YOU Ready?
This new rule could impact your subscription services! What it means for developers, website owners, and why making cancelation easy is crucial
Today the FTC announced a new rule that’s about to change how you handle subscriptions. It’s called the Click-to-Cancel rule, and it’s only a matter of days (180 days, but still!) before your site could fall out of compliance.
I’ve been redirected through endless loops of “Are you sure?” pages and have even been required to make multiple phone calls to cancel subscriptions before and I have never stopped holding a grudge against that company (not naming any names). So as a consumer I am 100% in favor of this rule. As a web developer… I am bracing myself for some extra work on the horizon.
What is Click-to-Cancel?
This new rule is designed to make canceling subscriptions just as easy as signing up for them. No more dark UX tricks, microscopic text, or endless pop-ups begging people to stay.
