Campaign Update: My Human Right.

Women’s March Global launched the My Human Right to Bodily Autonomy Campaign in response to the global rollback of women’s human rights, of which we have seen a surge in the last year alone. Most recently the curtailment of reproductive rights in countries like Argentina, and the U.S. is a prime example of the systemic barriers of oppression that we face globally.

Across the globe, 40% of women of childbearing age live in countries with highly restrictive abortion laws, or where abortion is legal, it is neither available nor accessible. The abortion bans and laws that restrict access to safe and legal abortions are a violation of our human right to bodily autonomy.

As part of the My Human Right to Bodily Autonomy campaign, Women’s March Global released a Global Letter to support and unite for abortion rights worldwide as we mobilise for a Global Day of Solidarity on September 28, International Safe Abortion Day. So far, 560 people from 50 countries have signed our Global Solidarity Statement. From New Zealand to Zambia — Cameroon to Norway — Japan, Nigeria, Israel, Jordan, Spain, India and 40 more countries, our Global Community of changemakers have come together to fight for our #HumanRight to bodily autonomy.

Reproductive rights are human rights. Restricting the right to safe abortion services and forcing an individual to carry out an unwanted pregnancy is a violation of our human rights.
