VR is a transformative medium by essence for learning experiences.

As research already shows, VR has indeed the potential to profoundly impact Education in the next upcoming years:

Here are 5 original examples we have gathered at Wonda VR on how universities have successfully included immersive learning experiences into their curriculum and strategic long-term vision.

MANAGEMENT TRAINING / North Carolina State University

VR provides a safe and engaging environment for students to build management skills such as conflict resolution skills.

In “First Impressions”, a VR experience created with Wonda VR at NCSU, students enrolled in the Management Course learn how to respond appropriately and effectively to a cross-cultural incident in a business situation.

“The use of VR and specifically 360° video aka ‘cinematic VR’ allows students to observe a given situation, then step into the role of one of the individuals involved. The resulting experience gives students a sense of presence and being (visually and audibly) that differs from traditional media forms.” says Mike Cuales, from NCSU.

The project won the bronze prize at the 2018 International Serious Play Awards.

JOB TRAINING / New York University

Every year, students from NYU Silver School of Social Work complete an internship in an organization located in and around the Lower East Side.

Through this experience, NYU Silver School of Social Work’s graduate students embark into a narrated virtual field trip within the very neighbourhood where they will be working.

As they virtually cross a main thoroughfare, board a city bus, pass through a public park or wait at a traffic light, they have the opportunity to proactively engage with social work concepts.

By prompting students to observe each location in 360° and trigger information hotspots, the students are provided with a new tool to think about the implications of the specific multi-layered and historical environment on their social work.

LANGUAGE LEARNING / Harvard University

In today’s digital, globalizing economy, transcultural competences and language proficiency is a must. But it is a hard skill to gain unless you have the ability to travel to other countries for long periods of times and practice the language in its original environment.

At Harvard, French Language 101 students now have the ability to experience Parisian life through the eyes of 4 locals in short, intensive first-person experiences.

Made accessible directly from within the classroom in Boston, this interactive VR experience allows them to interact with the different characters in complete cultural immersion and gain more confidence in day-to-day exchanges in a foreign language.

ADMISSIONS / Michigan State University

For many students and their families who can’t afford the cost of travel to multiple universities, VR tours help them experience the university before they make a decision.

Michigan State University created a guided tour so prospective students can virtually travel to each main location at their own pace and learn about the unique services the university provides and what to expect in terms of campus culture.

All types of Project-Based Learning for students…

VR has amazing potential to immerse students in stories about art, history and culture and it will certainly impact the way we work and socialise in the years to come.

By allowing students to create their own VR Experience with tools such as Wonda VR as part of project-based learning, the learning outcomes for students are skyrocketing while preparing them for their future workplace environments and foster their creative thinking skills.

At NYU Gallatin School of Personalised Studies for instance, students were invited to produce their own VR experience for their research project on the indigenous history of New York City.

During a semester, students documented their field study and designed a VR experience on their own using Wonda VR.
