In March 2017 we set on a mission to create a platform to make inventions widely available and support inventors. In the early days after launching Wonder, we were overwhelmed with the response we received. We earned mentions in The Next Web and WIRED and our stock got booked out for a few months ahead. Certainly, we hoped for the best, but that level of interest exceeded all our expectations.

That was the start of our journey, and we got busy growing the business, improving the platform and solving many issues along the way. Today, we’d like to share what we’ve been working on, what’s changed and what’s new.

Global delivery

We started with our own delivery system and even built something similar to Uber, where delivery drivers could pick up jobs and deliver our orders. This proved to be unsuitable and too expensive for our needs.

We switched to a global delivery system and integrated with over 50 carriers. This means we can offer lower delivery fees and deliver not just across the country, but also (virtually) anywhere in the world. Since then, we’ve been testing delivering in Europe, the US and beyond. If you’re lucky enough to have an invitation in one of those locations, you can now place orders on the platform.

Apple Pay, Google Pay and Cryptocurrency

In the spirit of dedication to innovation and technology, we are excited to offer new modern ways of payment, such as Apple Pay and any method supporting Payment Request API, such as Google Pay.

In addition, we now offer payment with a number of cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, Ether, Dash and others. Although the crypto market tends to be quite turbulent, we cannot pass on an invention that allows people to trade without a middleman or a third-party monetary authority.

For the moment, the price of an order in a chosen cryptocurrency is calculated from the currency of the country of delivery at the time of purchase. In other words, we use fiat for base prices.

Wonder for Inventors

We started as a community of owners sharing interesting products with one another. With the development of new exciting prototyping tools and methods, such as 3D printing and electronic development kits, it’s easier than ever for anyone to be an inventor and bring their creations to life.

Wonder now offers quick and easy way to upload new inventions, offer product trials, get early adopters, feedback, and refine go-to-market strategy. All these tools are now baked into the heart of the platform, helping inventors build meaningful relationships with customers.

In addition, inventors can use the new Wonder Pro service: a hassle-free solution to offer product trials: we prepare every order, provide custom-made packaging to present it in the best way, and maintain and store the product in between orders. In other words, it’s an inventor’s own show store, delivered to customers’ door.

Like it? Keep it.

The future is likely less about ownership and more about the experience. Although what we’re building is quite literally the store of the future, we also appreciate the case when a product just feels right, and something that’s nice to keep for longer.

It is now possible to keep a product at the end of a trial, simply by paying the rest of the cost.

The new “Keep it” option is available on most products, and the price of purchase can be set by inventors.

Magazine

Social media takes a lot of time and attention — two items always in shortage on an inventor’s list. Therefore, we froze all our social media accounts and moved away.

We’re happy to introduce Wonder Magazine — a new bi-weekly publication on invention and human achievement. Every issue is dedicated to a certain area of innovation, from robotics and autonomous vehicles to brain-computer interfaces and wellbeing technology — featuring products from the platform to try and learn the state of the art.
