Ibn Abbas reported, prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your free time before your work, and your life before your death.”

Whether you are a Muslim or not, this statement offers profound advice to living a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

1. Youth Before Old Age

Not to say that old age renders you useless but we all have our prime.

We can really use our youth to set the foundations of our later life.

We can ground ourselves spiritually. Seek answers to the big questions of life and strengthen our faith and relationship with God.

During our younger age, our brains are like a sponge. It is important to utilise this to try to learn as much as possible. Having an understanding of how the world works enables us to engage strategically with the problems that arise in front of us. We can build on what we learn from a young age and observe how our viewpoints change as we grow in knowledge.

Lastly, we can use our youth to build our finances. When we yet to have a family to look after we are able to take…
