Building an Iron Mind
Islamic Principles for Mental Resilience
I have noticed that many self-improvement articles and videos tend to be void of any traditional religious teachings or practices.
Here I look to view self-improvement through the lens of Islam, providing 5 helpful practices to build you as an individual both spiritually and mentally.
1. Reframe Your Story Through Tawakkul (Trust in God)
In Islam, trusting in God (Tawakkul) is fundamental.
Remember that whatever difficulty you face, God is in control, your trials are part of his plan.
View your trials as tests from Allah designed to build your character, to elevate you and nurture patience (Sabr) and trust in the Almighty.
Quranic Teaching: “And whosoever fears Allah…He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect.” (Qur’an 65:2–3)
2. Find Peace in Discomfort Through Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah)
Instead of running away or fearing discomfort, turn to Dhikr. When you face anxiety, stress or uncertainty, by remembering Allah you help quiet the mind and bring a sense of peace.
