Amidst all the hustle and bustle surrounding Valentine’s Day (which I love😍), has anyone ever taken a moment to empathize with those who find themselves single, heartbroken, or feeling lonely? Well, this article aims to do just that. As much as I love love, I also want to share a message of self-love and celebration with those who may not have a special someone. This is why, I will share with you a list of places for you to visit and love, or even find love ♥️.

For all of you who celebrate, Shakespeare once said:

My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite.

For those of you who don’t, Gera will recommend:

TRAVEL and romanticize your life. Being on your own doesn’t mean that you cannot celebrate Valentine’s Day, or the day after, or the one after that! ✈️ 🗺️

Unlike the numerous blog articles painting a fairy-tale-like love story in your mind, exclusively tailored for couples seeking romantic getaways, I’ll present a list of places you can explore solo or with friends to create your own enchanting tale. I mean, Cinderella lost her shoe and found her prince, you can buy a ticket and find joy, or even Cinderella’s Prince! Sorry, I meant yours.

🇪🇸 Barcelona, Spain — Undoubtedly, a Spanish city claims the top spot on my list. When I think of Spain I think of freedom, fun, networking, and, of course, indulging in food and drinks. Barcelona offers a myriad of exploration opportunities, from iconic landmarks like La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, and Casa Batllo to discovering hidden gems in charming streets and enjoying mouthwatering street food. Loneliness becomes an alien concept in this vibrant city; the locals are exceedingly friendly, ensuring you may stumble upon an unforgettable party or, who knows, even a spontaneous date.

🇧🇪 Antwerp, Belgium — My visit to Antwerp affirmed that it’s a city perfectly suited for exploration, whether solo or with a partner. The enchantment begins the moment you step off the central railway station, reminiscent of the magical Platform 9¾ from Harry Potter. This city exudes a captivating charm throughout. During my stay, I went to various festivals across different corners of the city, where my friends and I were warmly approached by fellow festival-goers. We danced, partied, had some great Belgian beer, and joked together. So, go ahead and buy that ticket — the magic of Antwerp awaits!

🇦🇱 Tirana, Albania — I might be a bit biased (it’s my city), but Tirana truly offers something for everyone. Whether you’re exploring the city center, Pedonale, Blloku, the Museum of Selfies, or Dajti Mountain, the options are diverse and interesting. You can find fantastic restaurants at reasonable prices or savor tasty street food. The locals are known for their hospitality and lively spirit, making it easy for international visitors to join in the vibrant party scene. Every time I have been out in Tirana I have met folks from abroad and even helped them get into the club without paying a fee. 😎

🇧🇬 Sofia, Bulgaria — Despite spending four years in Bulgaria for my bachelor’s studies, I hadn’t initially thought of including Sofia in my recommendations. However, when I returned a few years later and explored the capital, I was pleasantly surprised by the array of options the city had to offer. From numerous bars and restaurants catering to internationals to an abundance of history, visual arts, and out-of-the-box museums, Sofia turned out to be a hidden gem. It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the city and meet new people. Once I even was asked out on the spot to go to the cinema. So go for it, you never know!

🇭🇺 Budapest, Hungary — Last but certainly not least on my list is Budapest. Having explored every part of the city, both solo and with friends during my time living there, I can assure you that every moment is enjoyable. Contrary to stereotypes, the people are friendly, and the city is brimming with youthful energy. Whether it’s the great bars and restaurants or the breathtaking views in almost every part of both Buda and Pest, Budapest has something special for everyone.

And just as Shakespeare wrote for love, here I am writing to encourage you to romanticize your life. Buy that ticket, and celebrate love, but do it from a different perspective, in another country, with a stranger who has blue eyes and blonde hair — who just might turn out to be the love of your life. 🤴 👸

But even if that doesn’t work out, you went out there, enjoyed yourself, met new people, and spent an unorthodox Valentine’s Day! 🌸
