How Am I Becoming More Confident Within My Own Skin?
As I am now in my early 20s, I am becoming more confident with my appearance.
This has not always been easy for me it has been a slow process, but it is going in the direction that my teenage self would want to.
This article will hopefully be relatable to many people who have experienced or know someone who has gone through a similar experience.
I will also share my personal journey and ways I overcame my personal struggles.
During my teenage years, I had many insecurities that I still struggle with to this day but I am slowly overcoming them which I thought I never would.
During high school I was picked on over my weight by two boys in my class it knocked my confidence tremendously.
Throughout my teenage years, I went through phases of going on the most bizarre diets and excessive exercise.
I thought they would work, but I found out about these diets through celebrities promoting them.
I came to the realisation that I needed to stop comparing myself to others and the outrageous beauty standards that seemed to be ‘normalised’.
These are a few things I did to make myself confident in my own skin:
Surround yourself with positive influences
I was lucky enough to find a group of friends at the age of 18 when I started college, and I am still in regular contact with these incredible people and their positivity.
The deep and meaningful conversations I have had with them have had a positive impact on my journey to becoming a better version of myself.
Reading Books
At the start of 2024, I started reading. I have never really been into reading or cared for books.
The first book I started reading was ‘Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self-Love Is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness’ by Vex King.
Once I read this book I wanted to read more books so I came across ‘101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think’ by Brianna Wiest.
These books have not only had a great influence on me but have also helped me set and achieve goals that have helped with my overall confidence and well-being.
Journaling
I always thought that journaling was pointless and questioned some of my friends about why they journaled, their answers were very similar.
They did it because it helped them have control over and understand their own emotions.
It enables them to gain a clear picture of their thoughts and why they have them.
Once I started journaling, I understood the significance of this and will continue to do so.
From doing these steps, I have become much more confident in myself.
I am not quite where I want to be but I understand that these changes can’t happen overnight and may take years but they are going in the right direction that my teenage self would only dream of.
