Keeping children healthy is vital not only physically but mentally also. It is also important for their overall health and well-being.

In this article, I will show you 3 ways how to keep your child/children healthy.

Step 1 – Nutritious Meals

There is a common misconception that you must eat fresh fruit and vegetables but this is false because you can buy frozen fruit and vegetables that will last longer and get more bang for your buck.

Fresh, tinned, frozen and dried fruit and vegetables all count towards a child’s 5 A Day.

It’s also a common misconception that unsweetened fruit juice will count as more portions of fruit and vegetables.

I would personally err on the side of caution and count that as one portion.

Considering protein deficiency is rare in the United States, you should be able to get enough protein in your child’s diet.

Here are some protein sources to consider:

  • Egg
  • Fish
  • Lean meats
  • Peas
  • Poultry
  • Beans

Here are the minimum protein requirements for children, but please keep in mind that this may differ depending on your child’s weight.

Step 2 – Exercise

It’s a common factor that obesity is caused by a lack of exercise in early childhood combined with a surplus of calories.

The exercises I suggest are:

  • Going on family walks
  • Going to the playground
  • Walking to school
  • Cycling
  • Swimming

Combine exercise with quality nutrition to increase your child’s health and wellbeing.

Step 3 – Reduce Screen Time

As a parent it is important not to use devices during meal/family times as you are the child’s role model using devices during these times will make your children want to use their devices.

I personally recommend 15 minutes in the morning 45 minutes in the evening.

On weekends this can increase slightly
