How to use AI to build your own website. Generative AI tools are making their way into everything from filmmaking to home renovation. Another task that these supercharged templates can perform is designing websites.

The idea is the same as when creating text or images: type a prompt, and the AI will do its magic to produce something according to your instructions.

You can specify the purpose of the site and the visual style it should have, as well as the individual elements (such as images and menus) you want on the page.

Note that there is another way to build websites with AI, which is to get your chosen AI chatbot to generate HTML code.

This will take more time and effort, and you may have to deal with errors and inconsistencies along the way, but it gives you more control over the look of your final site.

AI-powered website builder Wix gets in on the act
Wix’s AI-powered website builder jumps into action as soon as you open an account. It takes the form of a series of questions about the site you want to create: the title of the site, the content it will display, the various features you need, and any specific message you need to convey.

It’s no different than a chat with ChatGPT or Gemini, and after each prompt, you can ask the AI to rephrase the question or help you answer it (basically, suggestions on what to say). It doesn’t take long to work and have a conversation with a real web designer.

When you’re done with the initial conversation, you can continue using generative AI to produce text and images for your site’s pages and specify a layout and theme. Just describe what you want to see, and Wix will do its best.

Each time a website layout is generated, you can start again from scratch. You can make more minor adjustments or accept the design and move on.

The AI websites that Wix produces bear little resemblance to the AI text and images we are used to now. They are polished enough, but rather generic and bland.

You don’t have much control over the details, and sometimes it’s difficult to get items in the places you want them. Of course, you can use the AI-generated pages as a start and then add your own edits.

Wix and its AI tools are free to use. Paid variants are also available (starting at $17 per month).
