As I rolled up my sleeves to begin my freelancing journey, many questions came to mind. One of which had to do with setting up a payment platform for my business.

Sure, it must be a global bank, which I could use to do business in different currencies. But it should also be easy to use and capable of working with many remote work platforms.

After some search on Google, and also asking around, I found Payoneer, Grey, and Geegpay. All three platforms offer solutions for freelancers, online businesses, and remote workers.

To help them do business with ease in many countries using different currencies.

Choosing the right payment platform as a freelancer is important. Your decision influences the efficiency and affordability of your international transactions. Here, we’ll compare all three platforms to figure out which would be best for remote workers.

Payoneer:

This player has been around since 2005, so you can call it a well-established veteran.

Payoneer is a payment platform with a global presence. This makes it accepted by many freelancing platforms, and it’s easy to get direct pay from clients.

Benefits

Global Reach: Payoneer supports payments in over 200 countries and in different currencies.

Multi Currency Accounts: The platforms allow users to hold and operate many currencies.

Prepaid Mastercard: Payoneer offers MasterCards for ATM withdrawals and online purchases.

Integration: payoneer works easily with other platforms such as Upwork and Fiver.

Low fees: They charge competitive fees for transactions and currency conversions.

Pros of Using Payoneer

Ease of Use: They have a user friendly interface and mobile app.

Customer Support: They have a wide range of options when it comes to customer support.

Wide Acceptance: Many freelance companies and international clients accept it.

Financial services: Payoneer offers more services, like working capital loans.

Cons:

Higher Fees: When compared to other players, the fees for receiving payments and money transfers are higher.

Account Suspension Issues: Users have reported account suspension issues. Issues of this kind hinder access to user earnings, which is a major concern.

Grey:

This new fintech positions itself as a friend to freelancers and remote workers. African based freelancers in particular enjoy its simplified international payments and currency conversions.

Key Features:

Virtual Accounts: Grey provides virtual USD and EUR accounts for receiving payments.

Many Wallets: Fintech supports the use of many currencies, and easy conversions.

Cons:

Limited Global Reach: the platform is not as big as Payooneer and also not as widely accepted.

New Market Entrant: The fin-tech is less established than some others in the industry. This means it has fewer features or integrations. For example, it doesn’t offer a debit card.

Geegpay

Sometimes called the Upwork integrated speedstar, Geegpay prioritises fast and secure transfers for freelancers.

GeegPay is a payment platform designed for freelancers. It offers services that cater to their unique needs, including receiving international payments.

Brand recognition: is less well known and might affect client trust.

Withdrawal limits: GeegPay is a newer platform than the other options. They might have lower withdrawal limits, which is a concern for high volume freelancers.

Choosing a perfect fit:

All platforms have advantages and limitations, as well as areas where they perform best. Picking one’s best depends on their priorities.

If you prioritise a well established brand with global acceptance, then Payoneer might be the way to go.

if competitive rates and specifically designed features interest you more. Grey or Geegpay could be right for you (depending on your location and needs).

Beyond these three, remember that there are other options available. It is always a good idea to research other payment platforms and compare fees and features before making a decision.

Ultimately, the best payment solution is the one that seamlessly integrates into your workflow. offers reasonable rates and provides easy access to your hard earned income.

Carefully consider your needs and research options so you can find the perfect platform that fits you so you can focus on what you do best.
