Why you should read a book ? Well…honestly I have no idea. It’s a free world, it is your choice whether to read them or not.

But on a serious note, I firmly believe books are the grandest gift bestowed upon mankind. Through this article, I want to share a few admirable facts about them, which might encourage you to give them a try.

First of all, books are the best source of entertainment. They require no electricity, wifi, or subscriptions. All you need is literally a book and light. The pace of the story also depends upon you—whether you take a day, a month, or even a year, it is totally your decision! There are so many genres to select from too.

Secondly, their portability is a boon. Whether you are on a jam-packed train or restlessly waiting for your turn in the dentist’s clinic, no one will be bothered by your friend! In fact, they will think highly of you. The subtle power of a book often serves as a silent invitation, fostering connections with strangers who share a curiosity for the literary world.

Thirdly, books are the most economical source of entertainment. An average novel costs you around $15.75. And what else? You don’t need a subscription; after its purchase, it’s totally yours! If you are careful about your budget, you can also avail the option of visiting a public library and disappearing in the fully-loaded shelves.

Another fascinating thing about them is they are treasure troves of knowledge. There are loads of life lessons one can possibly take from a book. When I read “To Kill A Mockingbird,” it became evident how social segregation can affect your course of life. Similarly, delving into "My Name Is Malala" increased my appreciation for the transformative power of education. Each book has its own special take on the world, shaping our perspectives regarding it.

Other than their immediate benefits, reading books is also a healthy exercise for your brain. Using MRI scans, researchers have confirmed that reading involves a complex network of circuits and signals in the brain. As your reading ability matures, those networks also get stronger and more sophisticated. They prevent age-related cognitive decline in the long term. Additionally, children who start reading at an early age tend to cultivate creativity and empathy.

Last but not certainly least, they play a pivotal role in building our vocabulary. It becomes easy to describe your feelings when you have the right words for expressing them. Time and time again, studies have proven that people with a vast vocabulary are more likely to climb higher in the ladder of life, as colleges and job interviews constantly seek candidates having a stronger grip in communication skills.

If you’ve never explored the world of books, now’s your chance! I hope this article has been helpful in changing your perspective. Share in the comment section 👇: What was your first book, or if you haven’t read one yet, which book would you choose as your first?
