Tic Toc…Tic Toc…

Wake up…You’re late!!!

To what exactly? That depends on who you ask.

If you ask your parents, you’re probably late on getting married or buying your own house. Your grandmother will tell you that she’s owed some grandkids soon, and from your boss..well…let’s be honest; that report could probably get written faster. After all, the world’s faith depends on it.

Ultimately, if you factor in social media, you realize that you’re probably late for just about everything…depending on the suggestions the algorithm is giving you.

Expectations, expectations…everywhere you look, one pops up its head.

I’ve come to realize, in the last few years working with adults and students of all ages as a school counselor, that we very rarely stop to ask ourselves where these expectations come from.

In the digital era we live in now, ads and social media constantly bombard us with information about who we should be, what we should be doing, where we are supposed to be, and how we should be acting to fit in and be called “successful” or, an old-time favorite…
