Saved by a Slap: A Scam Story
If you don’t like to be slapped or scammed like me, you should read this.
Inspired by reading this article I decided to write my own story on how I was almost scammed.
I had newly immigrated to Canada, fresh off the boat, when I got a call from an anonymous number.
I answered excitedly.
I’ve been bored at home alone so I welcomed any distractions.
The person on the phone told me that I am under investigation and that the police had surrounded my apartment.
He told me that my phones are tapped and that I shouldn’t tell anyone about this for security purposes.
I am not to contact anyone.
I should close my laptop were the instructions I was given.
I had my doubts at this point, and I know they thought I needed another push.
He told me they will stay in contact.
He hung up.
Moments later a call comes from the Toronto Police Department phone number. It showed up as an ID on my phone.
This is when I completely believed them.
I googled the number, and behold, to my panic, it came back positive.
I quickly threw away the marijuana I had thinking it is an additional felony they would hold me for…..
They tell me I have to pay for a lawyer and I have to transfer the money via mail.
On the way out, I ran into my roommate who was immediately skeptical after having heard the story. I tell him I’m not allowed to talk to him.
He ignored me and followed me downstairs.
As I headed downstairs to the ATM, he stopped me, stared me in the face, and slapped the panic out of me.
He told me to tell them to come pick me up from the mall, and that he will handle all of the fees.
Next time they call, I tell them that and they told me to wait there because the police are on the way to pick me up.
I don’t hear back.
I owe my friend thousands of dollars 😁
