The Only Way Around Is Through It

5 ways to break through a writing block

If you’ve been writing for any time, I know you have piles of drafts and scraps of ideas littering your computer and desk.

That’s the life of a writer. Saving those ideas is faithfulness in action. Bits of ideas and finely tuned sentences are like jars of spices in a cabinet: you may not use them often, but when you need them for a special recipe, you’ll be glad they are there.

What do you do when that one story is almost finished, but you can’t seem to get it to the point of hitting “publish”? For me, stories like that can stop me — block the creative flow of ideas — and frustrate my goal of writing and publishing daily.

I know there is no rule about publishing daily, but my earnings increase when I do, and my creativity flows easily when I keep the pipes cleaned out.

This story had me blocked for weeks. It was a story I felt was important to share, which put a lot of pressure on me to do it “right.”
