WordPress + Blockchain = WordProof. First Interview, about Bridging Open Source communities and funding Open Source software
What happens when you bridge World’s most used Content Management System, WordPress, with the world’s most accessible blockchain operating system, EOSIO? Open Source plugin WordProof aims to bridge the WordPress and EOSIO communities, leveraging the opportunity to onboard 75,000,000 WordPress users to the blockchain.
The central question is: “How can both ecosystems leverage each other's experience and potential?”
Sebastiaan van der Lans — initiator of WordProof — had the pleasure to be interviewed by Brandon Parker, founder of The EOS Podcast, about the WordProof project and the WordPress ecosystem.
This was so much fun!
This interview covers:
- Truly inclusive funding of Open Source software via the Telos Worker Proposal System.
- WordPress as an Open Source market leader (the WordPress ecosystem has 10+ years of experience in Open Source community building and software development)
- The WordProof project and roadmap. If the Telos Worker Proposal successfully passes, then the first version will be launched before WordCamp Europe 2019 in June, which is the world’s largest WordPress event.
WordPress is the World’s biggest Content Management System, which happens to be open source, powering one-third of all websites on the web.
EOSIO might be the first usable blockchain operating system, blessed with a large community. The EOSIO software is powering not only the EOS main net ($4bln market cap) but also innovative sidechains like the developer-friendly innovation lab Telos.
How can both ecosystems leverage each other’s experience and potential?
Truly Inclusive Funding of Open Source software
WordProof is the 6th submitted Telos Worker Proposal, on which you can vote until April 7th.
An overview of all Telos Worker Proposals can be found here.
“The Worker Proposal System makes developing Open Source software truly inclusive. From now on, Open Source software development is accessible to everyone, not only to those who are able to free up their time!”
- Sebastiaan van der Lans, WordProof.io, Open Source Agency Founder (2006)
We planned to publish an article about the truly inclusive funding of open source software in the coming weeks. In the podcast, Brandon and Sebastiaan elaborated extensively on this topic!
WordPress as an Open Source market leader
WordPress is an open source market leader: the Content Management System represents more than a decade of experience in successful Open Source community building and software development.
Sebastiaan van der Lans founded his Amsterdam based web agency in 2006 with co-founder Robert van Eekhout, creating with WordPress since 2007. Only in 2018, their team of 25 developers served more than 500 million WordPress pageviews for publishers, charity, and SME’s.
They’ve always been active members of the WordPress community for more than 10 years (e.g. by co-organizing WordPress events). One of their recent contributions is the open source plugin WordPress GDPR Compliance, which is actively being used on 100,000+ websites.
The WordProof project and Roadmap
The WordProof Plugin for WordPress: Timestamping your content in the Blockchain, for free
Here’s a video, explaining the WordProof project and opportunity, “Onboarding 75 million WordPress users into the EOSIO ecosystem? WordProof Introduction (Telos WPS)”:
We aim to publish the first version of WordProof before the end of June, containing:
- Timestamping WordPress content;
- UsingEOSIO accounts as 2 Factor Authentication for logging into your WordPress Dashboard.
If the Telos Worker Proposal successfully passes, we ensure a first version to be published before WordCamp Europe 2019. If you hold Telos tokens (or had EOS tokens on the Genesis snapshot), please vote for the WordProof Worker Proposal before April 7th!
