WordProof Update: May — Making the Blockchain Accessible!

It has been close to a month since the WordProof Team started working full-time on the project. It has been a busy month with a lot of exciting developments, but we are most proud of our new onboarding tool to make the installation of WordProof Timestamp easy for the WordPress community.

Using blockchain technology is no easy task, especially for non-technical people. They need to know about keys, accounts, wallets and more to fully enjoy the benefits and possibilities blockchain has to offer. However, it is not reasonable to expect people to learn all of this, just so they use the blockchain technology.

After launching the WordProof Timestamp plugin (beta), more than 60 testers (from both the WordPress & Blockchain communities!) gave it their best. We are very grateful for their time and effort, because their feedback revealed something troubling: creating an account on the blockchain — in addition to downloading and setting up a wallet, is too much of a struggle.

However, before people can use WordProof Timestamp to actually time-stamp their content, they need an account on the blockchain, and they need a (fully configured) wallet. There is no way for us around these requirements.

WordProof Wizard

This is why we focussed on the entire user experience: from creating an account and downloading a wallet, to adding specific networks (hi Telos!) to their wallet. We call it the WordProof Wizard: a tool to onboard new users onto the blockchain.

Get Started — Timestamp your content with WordProof.

The wizard launches right from the WordPress Dashboard and supports both Telos and EOS. People can create a Telos account for free in the wizard, while EOS users have to use an external website. However, the wizard takes them through the process step by step.

After creating an account, users are asked to download the Scatter wallet. Step-by-step instructions on how to configure the wallet follow, in the form of screenshots, animations and videos.

This is a prototype: we are currently finetuning the texts and animations of the real tool. More steps and instructions will be available there!

We believe the WordProof Wizard can have a massive impact on the onboarding of new users to the blockchain in general, but more specifically to the Telos and EOS blockchains. It takes about 5 minutes to complete the entire set-up, after which users can do what they came for: gaining visitors’ trust by time-stamping their content onto the blockchain.

Redesigned WordProof Dashboard

For the WordPress people out there: we redesigned the WordProof Timestamp Options Page. We expect to be listed in the WordPress.org Plugin Repository later this week. The new WordProof Wizard and dashboard will be included!

Redesigned Blockchain Certificate

So far, we have talked about the group that will timestamp their content: website owners, publishers and writers. However, there is another side to the story. In order for website owners to gain their visitors’ trust, their visitors must be able to see the certificate of a single timestamp. We have completely redesigned the Certificate and made it accessible by using a pop-up.

The Blockchain Certificate — Proof Trust!

When a user clicks on “View the blockchain certificate” under a post or page, this pop-up will appear with the URL, title, content, timestamp information and (coming soon!) revisions. Visitors will be able to browse through the different timestamps. This means absolute trust and transparency for users!

WordProof Logo

Every new adventure needs a logo, so we asked the talented Boudewijn Mijnlieff to help us out. We are super happy with the logo and the message behind it, which resembles our core vision: enabling trust. We will continue to work with Boudewijn on emblems for both the WordProof Timestamp plugin and the WordProof Decentralized Hosting product, more info coming soon.

To end this update, we would like to thank the Telos community for kickstarting this journey through the WordProof WPS! We will reveal more big plans for the WordProof Timestamp plugin in the near future, as we work our way to WordCamp Europe in Berlin, where Sebastiaan will talk about WordProof.
