A Few Quick Thoughts About American Politics
I have been posting on Facebook and tweeting a lot lately about our upcoming Presidential election. I’ve thrown out a few posts that may have seemed serious but I’ve been trying my best to maintain a humorous perspective on all of it. After all, this has been a very fascinating race.
That being said, I don’t want to give you guys the false impression that I’m actually concerned about who becomes our next President. This entire ordeal is very entertaining to me and I don’t really think that any of these candidates are particularly noble or forthright about their true motives or intentions for and upon taking office.
However, I’d like for you all to take a step back and look at what’s actually happening.
This is a situation that we have created.
The line between entertainment and reality has become so blurred that none of us can really tell the difference anymore but as long as we’re entertained, we seem to be happy.
24/7 cable news channels that spend every hour of the day regurgitating the same 15 minutes’ worth of news.
Weekly debates chock full of sound bites keep us satisfied.
You may love it or you may hate it but all of this buffoonery exists because a bunch of people are both watching it and demanding more of it when they refuse to turn if off and find something better to do with their time.
This is the new reality.
This is American politics.
This is Sparta.
None of these Presidential candidates are going to make a difference. Only we, the people, can make a real difference.
If you really want to fight for America and everything that you think it should stand for, turn off the news, stand in the middle of the aisle, and learn to love people. Even the ones you disagree with.
Or keep watching the news.
The ball is in your court.
