I Hid You in My Poetry

I hid you in my poetry,
To protect me,
A line, I misunderstood.

Brought up,
On the wrong-side,
Misguided neighborhood.

Down at the shoreline,
That’s where you will find me,
Hanging out there with the driftwood.

What did I do?
I wrote some words and ran,
Did I do all that I could?

I hid you in my poetry,
To protect me,
A line, I misunderstood.

Determined to find a way out,
Onto the Brightside,
I had to flee my neighborhood.

So I hid you there on that beach,
The safest place I could think of,
Hanging out there with the driftwood.

Now I find myself,
Running towards you,
A promise of safety, I have to make good.

I hid you in my poetry,
To protect me,
A line, I misunderstood.
