I often think about what I’d be doing had I never become a writer.

In some ways, it’s the perfect job for me.

Working as a journalist early in my career gave my ADHD brain something new to focus on every day, and the deadlines inherent to the profession kept said ADHD brain focused and on task.

The only downside?

As an introvert, dealing with people in high-stress situations every day took a lot out of me.

The writing I do now as a side business is ideal: I get to share my thoughts and interesting stories without having to go out to, say, a crash site or a committee meeting and bug people who don’t want to talk to me for info.

I also don’t mind my post-journalism day job, but return-to-office has been difficult for me given my aforementioned low social battery and proclivity toward living in my own head.

Sitting in a cubicle all day is torture to my novelty-seeking mind as well.

Yeah, I think if I were dreaming up my perfect job, it would involve a combination of these factors:

  • Being alone
  • Being constantly on the move
  • Being outdoors
  • Being autonomous

Well, it turns out there might be a perfect job for me that can pay more than $100,000 … and you don’t even need a college degree to do…
