Pleasant surprises I discovered because my company has no plans to return to an office

There’s a difference between March 2020, when the company I worked for begrudgingly accepted ways of working to weather the pandemic, and the optimizations and improvements I’ve discovered recently while working at Medium. Medium over the course of the past few years has intentionally remained a remote-first company. Knowing that the situation isn’t temporary affords me the safety to optimize lifestyle changes indefinitely. Through this process I have found earthly joy in surprising places.

The confidence of a hard-wired internet connection

Early on in the pandemic I invested in a system of mesh wifi routers to ensure connectivity for myself and my family as we attempted to make connections via video chat all day. I falsely believed that with a fiber-optic connection that it couldn’t possibly be my internet that was causing a call to be choppy with frozen poses.
