How I use ChatGPT to overcome remote work challenges

Science and problem-solving are traditionally team sports. You chat with colleagues, exchange data, and trade helpful hints ā€” all in the dynamic buzz of shared spaces.

These conversations, whether during coffee breaks or lunches, are essential for sparking new ideas and advancing projects. But working from home drastically changes this dynamic. Casual coffee breaks and collaborative lunches have now turned into sending Slack messages or arranging impromptu video calls. However, these methods sometimes fall short due to scheduling conflicts and time zone differences, slowing down momentum.

Recognizing the need to respect my colleaguesā€™ time while maintaining momentum, Iā€™ve embraced a powerful ally: AI agents like ChatGPT.

What is an ā€˜AI agentā€™? Itā€™s simple. It involves using ChatGPT to behave in a way that reflects a specific professional role. Here are some examples:

The Pair Programmer

Imagine youā€™re stuck on a tricky piece of code, and there is no one available to help. Thatā€™s when I turn to ChatGPT. It serves as my pair programmer. Whether Iā€™m writing SQL queries or seeking optimizations, ChatGPT is always there to assist. Here is how I prompt it:
