The importance of your journey reaching for the stars.

When You Reach For The Stars, It’s The Reaching That Matters

Why we need to focus on the journey.

What if I fail?

What if it all goes wrong?

What if I don’t make it?

What if I lose?

What if nobody buys it?

What if nobody likes me?

What if nobody listens?

What if I screw it up?

What if I make the wrong decision?

What if I take the wrong risks?

What if I don’t make money?

What if the money doesn’t make me happy?

What if people laugh at me?

What if nobody shows up?

What if nobody buys a ticket?

What if I lose?

…What if?

These are the questions that I hear all the time. They’re the questions that I hear every single day when I speak to the people who come to me wanting to change the way they live or work or build things. And my response is always the same. Well, so what?

You can’t measure what you want to do purely in the black and the white of making it or not making it. You have to measure the journey, your experience of trying, your experience of reaching for the stars. And what you measure that by are these 3 metrics:

Are you enjoying it?

While you’re following your passion, working to build something, working to build a better you, working to create the life you actually want to live, are you enjoying it? This is your life. So are you having the time of your life?

Are you giving it all you’ve got?

Are you putting in the hours, the blood the sweat and the tears? Are you working your ass off along the way or are you busy fantasizing about what it’s all going to be like when you make it?

Are you following your own heart?

And that’s the most important metric here. Are you doing what you passionately want to do? Or are you caught in the mosh, thrown around with no personal direction or control?

At the end of the day, the most important part of what you do in your life or your business or your job, is not necessarily reaching the high point of success. That matters, don’t get me wrong — we’re not setting out to fail here, by any means. But we’ve got to be focused on the way we’re getting there.

We’ll spend the majority of our lives on that journey. We’ll spend more time working to make it than enjoying our lives once we’ve made it. That’s just common sense. So you need to make sure that you’re living through that journey, not just running on autopilot with your head and your heart full of dreams. Pay attention to that journey. Live it. Love it. Embrace it.
