The Idea Worklified

The idea for Worklified comes from different events, which all came together in a very short period in 2018 and suddenly made sense to us.

The Different Events Are

  • We started our consultant company Spakt in order to find a way to combine our work and spare time.
  • One co-founder wasn’t happy with his work, so he quit his job even though his salary was AMAZING. He did not get any tasks that were challenging for him, which is one of his values, to solve challenging work. Now he builds Worklified with a Haskell backend and kubernetes.
  • A co-founders neighbor said that he would love to work 4 days and then have every Friday off. He did not mind saying “goodbye” to a potential rise in his salary for that extra day off.
  • One co-founder attended the one-month CEO for the Adecco Group and learned much more about leadership. Leadership is many things, but one thing is, to provide employees a great framework to do great work within.
  • One co-founder is a dad and love that, at the moment, he is able to take time off to be with his family whenever he want.
  • A co-founder listened to LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffmans podcast ‘Masters Of Scale’. Especially episode 20 with Ev Williams should be highlighted. He talks about this one mission he has in every one of his startups (Blogger, Twitter and Medium). You could see it as a master mission in his life. In general the “mission” could be defined as, you don’t have to know exactly what to build, but the main mission “has” to be in place. Our mission at Worklified are that we want to help people achieve a great framework for work-life balance, whether that is working 80 hours a week or working two days a week. Let’s Fix Work-Life Balance

Stress levels are sky high and they are only on the rise, both for adults and children.

If businesses are about, in the long term, profit then leaders should value happy employees as number one priority. Every study shows that happy employees are more productive than unhappy employees. So why is it that we still focus on hire employees the “old way” on skills first, or a timed box schedule every week from 9 to 5?

We, at Worklified, have been starting startups for about 8 years and the number one big motivation for us has always been, seen in the back mirror, how to structure our own work-life balance.

We work for a living, but we are so much more complex as human beings than “just” workers. We love to dig deep into many other subjects in our lives such as for example philosophy, psychology, dancing, singing, coffee, friends, family and learning in general. All subjects that also requires our time in our daily lives. But as human beings, we are time limited and we can also only contain a certain amount of input in a very limited time-space before we start to lose our concentration. Both work, sparetime and family time should benefit from that limited time that we have.

Worklified — Let’s Try Something New

Let us hire on values first approach. Hire people on their values. Of course, people get hired to fit a certain role at a workplace. But let us be honest, for example, if an employed developer knows the abstract programming concepts, then that developer will be able to apply those concepts to other programming languages relatively fast — perhaps with some training over a weekend. This principle applies to different roles in the company as well.

Worklified is, at the moment, our playground to figure out how to match companies and employees together based on values. We believe that both companies and employees shall benefit from the match.

Why Developers First Approach

Worklified can work for all professions, but developers have a craft that they can perform from anywhere in the world, as long as they have a computer and internet. So we thought, that they would be a great first group to give a solution for getting better work-life balance in their lives. Also, we understand developers work-life balance issues, because we are in that group ourselves.
