Russia wants a united and strong Europe

That was the message from Igor Shuvalov, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister in a session on his country’s role in the world.

“Russia has never been interested in discord between European countries. We’re keen on Europe remaining united and strong.”

But the EU can only be as strong as its members allow

“What happens in the EU happens on the basis of a treaty that was ratified by all 28 member states,” Martin Schulz, the president of the European Parliament said in response to critics.
