Why I Remain on FaceBook

When Google Plus sent out invites on June 28th, 2011, I happily accepted and didn’t go near fb for many years. Google Plus was quite simply the best social networking site ever created, but as the years passed, the good stuff was withdrawn, and with that, so went the people. Still, I stayed to the bitter end.

Bill Gates sure knows how to suck it out of his thumb. His solution to climate change is to find new technologies and for all countries to cooperate. He also says that business must own up to how much their manufacturing processes are impacting climate change. I’m ROTFLMAO.

Business Culture

Both my parents were in business. I often heard them speak about turnover, profits, staff, and other things that happened during the day. When my pocket money ran out, I could ask my late father if I could work in the shop, and he would put me behind the battery counter to serve customers, or he would let me stuff envelopes with invoices, and then he would pay me a heavily inflated amount from his own purse.

For years now, I’ve read various calls from varoius people that Americans should unite. Nobody, however, is giving anyone a strong reason for uniting.

Let me give you a few reasons why Americans won’t unite. And then let me share with you what is necessary for them to unite.

1. There is no agreement about vitally important issues. There are a large number of these issues — climate change, abortion, the second coming, neoliberalism,racism, etc. People who are this divided on issue do not have a common unity.

There has always been the rich, the in-etween, and the poor in society. During the 50s and 60s, the gaps between these classes were not as great as they are today. During times when there have been great extremes, violence has been the end result (think French Revolution and Russian Revolution). So, is it wrong to be excessively rich when a majority of people are struggling simply to live? During the past five years, like many others, I have known many friends who have parents or relatives who support the far right. As a South African, currently ‘home’ for the past five years, I have been aghast at the number of Trump supporters and racists in South Africa. Consequently, I have broken ties with these people — many of those ties going back to childhood. They’re sane and safe gun laws. What’s not to like?

In order to own a gun in South Africa, you need a gun licence. In order to get that licence, there is a list of rigorous requirements. Here they are:
