Travel Log: The Beginning
So, I’ve never done a travel log. Can you buckle in, strap up/down, and get ready to ride with me? Yeah, I didn’t think so — let’s do it anyway though. Deal?
I should preface, though. I’m headed to Atlas Lab, an amalgamation of world music professionals from all over the planet. Why am I going? I feel called to go.
I am going to admit something to you, and then I’m going to run from it and be less serious.
When I was a kid, I used to practice my drum set to Enigma’s MCMXC a.D. album. I practiced to it, like, every day.
Why?
I thought that it was a modern orchestra. I didn’t know there was such a thing as fake instruments and electronic instruments.
When I found out it was fake? I kept practicing. Why? Because I wanted to create my own orchestra, and playing along to the simple hypnotic rhythms of Enigma gave me the ability to vividly imagine what my orchestra would look like. My orchestra would look like nothing the world had ever seen. I thought I’d have to go to Europe to put the group together. And…
So, anyway, now I’m headed to Atlas. I don’t think it will sound like Enigma — nor do I want it to — but I do think I will grow musically in ways I can’t imagine yet! I can’t wait to see what it is going to do to me!
Love you all,
Colin
