The role of chance is very prominent in Cléo de 5 à 7, it first occurs in the opening sequence of the film (shown below).

In this opening scene, Cléo is at a tarot reader and after she leaves the psychic reveals that she is going to die as Cléo draws the death card. This scene was prominent as it was the only scene shot in color, emphasizing the role of chance in this film.

Just as the movie starts with the role of chance, it ends on a similar note (shown below).

The ending scene confirms that Cléo has cancer, but the doctor reassures her that she can be cured with chemotherapy. However, whether she lives or dies is still up to chance, and not discussed in the movie.
