Cleo From 5 to 7

In this scene, Cleo and her musical writers are singing new songs that that her musical writers have come up with. She is seen in this screenshot to be joyful as she dances while listening to and singing the songs. This screenshot also presents her in the middle of the screen with most of her body visible, while the man playing the piano can only be seen from the shoulders up and is off to the bottom left hand corner. Cleo being in the center seems to emphasize Cleo’s (usually satisfied) need to be the center of attention, a need also seen later in the film when she goes to the restaurant and puts on one of her own songs and becomes upset when nobody listens. This screenshot also shows Cleo dressed in all white, a major contrast with the black dress she wears following the scenes after this and with the black dress with white polkadots that she was wearing the scenes prior to this. The white dress in this scene emphasizes her relatively uplifted mood and the fact that she is wearing the wig also goes to emphasize her obsession with superficial features and beauty. If the fluffy white outfit complements her positive mood now, the polkadot dress in previous scenes complement her uncertain and more neutral mood in the beginning and the black dress in the following scenes complement her negative attitude towards her life and future in later parts of the film.
