Hollywood created stars. They heavily promoted their actors and glamorized them to appeal to the American public. Actors didn’t just have to sell movies but themselves, as well. Jean Gabin gathered more interest than the average French actor of his time but he still gathered more attention about his personal life as he transitioned into a Hollywood actor. Gabin did, to an extent, change what it meant to be a working class French man as he heightened the representation of the working class but he never glamorized it. Brando, arguibly influenced American audiences than Gabin influenced French audiences. Brando’s carefree, tough image influenced many actors, and changed the way men acted on camera. We can look at this question by analyzing how each actor’s film influenced pop culture, and how other actors or icons behaved.
