Let’s face reality. Any traveler who has spent nights in hostels will tell you there are bad ones out there.

Hostels get a bad reputation in the United States for being dirty, dangerous places. Although, that reputation is different from any hostel I have stayed at.
The truth is, hostels are an excellent option for affordable accommodation. Plus, they offer so much that a hotel can’t provide (we’ll get into that a little later).

To make the most out of your experience, you need to know what to look for in a good hostel.

That can mean different things for everyone. Yet, we all seek comfort and hospitality. Meeting tons of new friends from all over the world is just a bonus.
Without further ado, here are five things to look for to narrow down your search to only the good ones.

1. Good WiFi in your bunk room

A lot of hostels will “encourage being social” and only supply WiFi in the common area. This is their way of saving a little bit of money on extended router installation.
