When I See You Smile

One of the first things people notice when they visit Jamaica is how kind, friendly, and happy the Jamaican people are. My husband was born in Jamaica. We visit often so many people report their impressions and experiences to us when they return from vacation. Oftentimes they remark about the perfect white teeth Jamaicans have and how they are always smiling.

These beautiful smiles were the first thing I missed when I came back this year to find everyone masked.

Resilience

Even though Jamaica is a paradise, poverty still exists. I lived in the United States for my whole life where there was food available from social service groups and the government when it was needed. If people in Jamaica need food, there is little help. That is where mother nature comes in. There are plenty of fruits. Plantain, breadfruit, mangos, akee, and sugar cane are staples.
