You know those days when you are really bogged down at work and just want to get away from it all?

Well that happened to me in late September when I took a spontaneous decision to have a weekend away in Sardinia… Google told me Calgary was one of the cheapest places to fly to that weekend and Airbnb told me that I could get a secluded little apartment with sea views away from all the crowds. The only thing missing was a little hiking route to clear my head from all the life stress back home.

Monte Cresia is a scenic 1 hour drive from Calgary and is a great break away from the beach when in south Sardinia

The drive up through the mountains are so much fun, lots of winding roads and breathtaking views however please note when you do get out of the main towns there are little to no amenities to buy water or snacks.

Heading up the road there are many places to pull over and start your own hike. We saw lots of locals picking wild mushrooms, families taking the dog out for a little walk and even stumbled across what we thought was the Italian army doing drills (it turned out to be locals playing pretend)

From the start of the Monte Cresia sign you only have a 30 to 40 minute hike to the top viewing point however it is worth pointing out that we saw a few locals who had set up a BBQ along the route which looked like a superb way to spend the afternoon

This is not a difficult hike but if you did fancy a couple of hours away from the beach, an awesome drive and a 90 minute round trip to stretch your legs and get some cracking views then this is the hike for you.

P.S. If you fancy doing it exactly how I did please feel free to check out the apartment I stayed in via Airbnb here

If you have not yet used Airbnb you can sign up here and receive £25 in travel credit :-)
