Hiking Patagonia with Intrepid – El Chalten

Part 2

4 seasons in one day is a term used a lot when I was researching Patagonia and it could not be truer when we experienced El Chalten, clear blue skies greeted us in the evening and stormy wind and rain greeted us in the morning. Although this does potentially harm the views you can expect from hiking I actually thoroughly enjoyed hiking in full waterproofs and fully experiencing what Patagonia has on offer.

The hikes of Laguna de los Tres and Laguna Torre are split over two days and both consist of 6 to 8 hours of medium difficulty hiking. We hiked as a group and had a fantastic external guide who really added to the experience of hiking Patagonia especially when the weather was as bad as it was.

El Chalten is a great little base with a small amount of good quality restaurants with my personal favourite being La Cervecería Chalténwhcih even has its own micro brewery attached, just make sure you try the local food and beer in this restaurant as you will not be disappointed!

Then for a drink, I recommend checking out. Fresco bar which is a small little bar popular with the local guides post hike

Now the hiking!

This is possibly one of the most peaceful places I have ever been with ever changing landscapes, ever changing weather and beautiful lush green surroundings

If you don’t mind getting wet and constantly changing clothes based on the weather then the hikes around El Chalten should be high on your hiking list!

Top Tip

Hike Laguna Torre on the day of the best weather when you are staying in El Chalten as the views of the lake are well worth it.
