World IA Day 2022 took place on March 5, 2022 with some local events taking place about a week before and after that date. WIAD 2022 took place in nearly 30 locations with people joining from all over the world. The events are organized locally by volunteer organizers.

The success of WIAD22 is loosely defined as “having more conversations about information architecture”. The most important success factor is that people enjoy the process, the events, and the energy. We are building awareness and creating a place for conversations.

Who joined WIAD22?

TOTAL ATTENDEES

875 people joined from all over the world on the global event platform. This does not include the local events that occurred outside of Vito.

COUNTRIES

In addition to the local events hosted in the United States of America, Poland, Italy, Switzerland, the Philippines, Spain, Mexico, Colombia, and Jordan, we also saw participants joining from Canada, India, Germany, and Brazil.

Feedback from attendees

  • Awesome set up of the digital dashboard space this year! the best ever. Now, all we need are more locations that choose to stream live and therefore, share their talks around the world. In all, I was only able to watch about 5 live streams, which is about the same as in the past, I think, but the actual “experience” of connecting, chatting and watching is up 100%.
  • I hope there will be in-person conferences again soon. Nevertheless, I like what you all have been doing over the past 2 years! Stay healthy, stay happy, stay safe! ❤️
  • I’m really excited about this kind of event. I’m very new in the UX field and in my country, it’s not entirely developed yet as in other parts of the world. So, everything is very valuable content to me. And also, free. So, thank you very much for offering this event. I’m really glad that I found out about this.
  • Keen to learn more about the practice of iA and meet new people!
  • Maybe it’s my first WIAD, but for sure not the last! I’m amazed
  • Participating in the yearly WIAD has really been a good experience for me. There are so many things that I learn. I get different perspectives from folks with other roles in the industry.
  • Thank you for the opportunity to present at World IA Day 2022. A truly excellent educational event. Keep up the great work!
  • This year’s format is a huge leap forward from last year’s. Thank you for enabling a better global experience.

Global Keynote with attendance

Global keynote “Architecting A Connected World” by Stephanie Akkaoui Hughes

Live Q&A sessions for the global keynote took place 3 times throughout the day. We saw over 206 people in total attending the sessions and 638 posts made on the platform.

Disappointments

World IA Day is always in a state of improvement. Some things we noticed:

  • Generally less locations participating in all regions
  • Less attendees (probably) due to online conference fatigue and the impacts of COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine in European locations

The global board has started their reflection phase and will be gathering feedback from volunteers and organizers on how we can feature more local perspectives on information architecture in the coming years.

Sponsors and partners

World IA Day is not possible without the support of our global and local partners and sponsors. Supporting World IA Day 2022 include:

We’re excited to have Esri and PoolParty Semantic Suite to join us this year as global sponsors and partners

We’re working on building community partnerships.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported us. We appreciate your support.

Thank you to our global sponsors and partners!
