We’ve been quiet for the past few weeks, mostly due to lack of time to invest in posting interesting tidbits but also due to the sucky internet lately in China.

Briefly, we left Japan at the end of November, made a quick stop in Hong Kong and then back to China for our southern section of the trip.

Wow was the keyword so far as nearly all places we visited have had this kind of effect on us.

Hong Kong — wow, so crowded!

Guangzhou — wow, so clean and organized!

Zhangjiajie City — wow, what an ugly place!

Wulinyuan and Zhangjiajie Forest Park — 4 days of constant wows!

Tianmen Mountain — double wow with vertical wows!

Fenghuang — wow, the hostel we booked doesn’t exist!

Guilin — wow, they rip off tourists here, left and right!

Yangshuo — wow, look at those mountains popping up from nowhere!

Chengdu — wow, this was a great welcome!

So M is still catching up on the travel log section with more detailed info on what we did and such, it is shame we are not catching up on this as this would be more interesting than me ranting here, but we hope once we skip the border to Thailand and Cambodia, we would have a little more time to write instead of constant planning and re-planning.

We will be heading south after spending the next few days in Sichuan (Chengdu and Zigong) to Yunan. Specifically we will be heading to Tiger Leaping gorge near Lijian. After that we will be flying to Bangkok from Kunming on Boxing Day, and this will mark the end of our (lengthy) China adventure.

Overall we really enjoyed southern China, mostly the landscape and views are spectacular, and the people are friendlier, in my opinion, from northern China. While in our first tour we visited the major sightseeing attractions (Xi’an, Beijing, Luoyang), the second tour was (and still is) mostly focused on nature and scenic sightseeing, and China has some great vistas to offer.

Here are some ‘wow’ photos in no particular order, some cannot convey the real life experience though.
