AI will transform healthcare
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the healthcare industry was laying low. Some might say it was even falling behind in technology and communication with its patients. The thought of having an appointment with your doctor via Skype or Zoom never really crossed anyone’s mind. That was the past. Thanks to the pandemic, the healthcare industry has been moving forward at a faster speed. Today, the majority of doctor’s appointments are happening online. Resulting in a whole new patient experience.
While the pandemic won’t be here for much longer (we hope), we could see a change in how the healthcare industry operates moving forward. These online appointments may not go away entirely. If it works, why get rid of it? We are increasingly seeing more focus on AI technology to improve the patient experience.
The EU and AI
The EU healthcare system is moving towards this direction of implementing AI technology in healthcare. They have seen the impact it has had throughout the pandemic and want to strengthen and improve it. EIT Health launched an AI report that showcased the importance of why AI technology is needed post-pandemic.
The EIT Health mentioned that without these major changes in healthcare, the industry could become unsustainable. One of the things that the report recommends is to have a database that can be accessed from any healthcare provider across the EU. This shared database could make it easier to track any potential outbreaks and create faster solutions.
AI technology has the potential to transform the healthcare industry, as stated by the CEO of EIT Health, Jan-Philipp Beck. The goal now is to seamlessly incorporate this new technology into the current healthcare structures of Europe. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the world will react to this new advancement from the EU.
