Apple introduced a new generation of Apple Airpods with noise cancellation to be released this Wednesday, October 30th. The press release announcing this development came over a month after the Apple Event, where new products are usually demo’d and released.

While the airpods don’t look extremely different from the outside (you can still only get them in white), there are significant developments that seem like they will enhance customer’s experiences with the product by a long shot.

Here’s a snapshot of the improvements:

  • The Big One: Noise cancellation. The new class of airpods feature built in microphones that detect sound which the earbuds promptly cancel out, adjusting up to 200 times per second
  • Sometimes people want to be able to hear a little bit of their surroundings. No worries, Apple has included Transparency Mode which allows you to turn off noise cancelling whenever you want
  • Adaptive EQ. In order to get you the best sound quality possible in an earbud, this feature automatically tunes music based on the shape of your ear.
  • Sweat and water resistance. No explanation necessary, that’s just a good idea.
  • 3 sizes of flexible ear tips to allow for maximum comfort and security, because no one wants to deal with earbuds falling out of your ears all the time, especially wireless ones that can get lost in about 2 seconds.
  • Expansion of the mesh mic port that makes for better quality calls in windy weather
  • A “force sensor” on the earpod body that allows you to control music and activate Transparency Mode

The Airpods Pro are available for purchase tomorrow at $249, but you can pre-order today.

Apple should really pay me for all this free promotion I do for them.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
