Calling All Interior Design-Loving Gamers

One good thing about quarantine is that it’s bringing out the best creativity I have ever seen from companies.

It’s become clear that America’s favorite pastime has changed from baseball to Animal Crossing: New Horizons since everyone is stuck in the house. One British homegoods store, Olivia’s, has decided to take full advantage of people’s obsession by offering paid interior design consultancy services.

Yes, paid. As in real money, not bells, the currency used in the game.

One of the most fun parts of the game is customizing your home to the T. However, some people struggle a little bit in the design department. That’s where Olivia’s is here to help. They are hiring consultants with a working knowledge of the game and (optional) interior design experience. They will help evaluate current setups, help match patterns, suggest layouts, and help the player to work within their budget to create a space they love.

Now let’s get back to the “paid” part. Although designers will ultimately be able to set their own prices, they can make upwards of £40 per hour.

Some people think that it’s just an elaborate publicity stunt by Olivia’s. To which I say, kudos to them. It’s not clear how many people will actually take advantage of these services, but I definitely checked out Olivia’s site because I was intrigued. And I’m sure traffic is booming right now. That’s a success to me.
