Google nest users are upset because the company did not inform customers about the microphone inside of the home security hub, known as the Nest Guard. According to Tyler Lizenby of CNET, there was no information about this microphone whatsoever provided by the company or written in the product’s specs. Therefore, no one knew about this microphone until Google made an announcement in early February that Nest Secure would be getting the Google voice assistant.
Lizenby said, “In a statement first reported by Business Insider, Google said the omission was a mistake.” He added that “the omission will strike some people as a privacy concern, given that the microphone has been on Nest’s home security hub since 2017.” As of this week, it was announced that the Senate “demanded Google answer for the hidden microphone.”
