According to Anmar Frangoul of CNBC, “Mercedes’ launch of the EQC is the latest attempt by more established, traditional carmakers to challenge the dominance of Elon Musk’s Tesla.” This week, Audi started mass production of its first electric SUV, the e-tron.

As Esha Vaish of Reuters said, “The Germans are now introducing their Tesla fighters as consumers are beginning to adopt electric cars on a larger scale, driven by regulations that are making their diesel-guzzling variants more expensive and electric cars becoming cheaper and easier to own.”

According to CNBC, the EQC will have a driving range of over 450 kilometers and “its combined carbon dioxide emissions are zero grams per kilometer.” When talking about the new vehicle, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dieter Zetsche, added, “Electric drive is a major component in the mobility of the future. We are therefore investing more than 10 billion euros in the expansion of our EQ model portfolio, and more than 1 billion euros in global battery production.”

It is evident with this reveal that Mercedes is staying ahead of the game and keeping up with the speed of change and the growing desire for electrically-powered cars.
