Since the start of the pandemic, people had to cancel any travel plans they had made and stay at home instead. But finally, after being locked up for what felt like forever, we are starting to see things go back to normal.

While everyone has been missing going out and exploring the world, no one seems to be missing the flight times. Thinking about going to Italy for your next travel destination? Well it’s roughly an 11 hour flight (yikes!). But that may not be the case in the near future. Wouldn’t it be great to get to your destination in half the usual time? With United Airlines that may be possible.

Earlier this month United Airlines made a deal with startup company Boom Supersonic for 15 of its “Overture’’ jets, plus more if needed. But don’t get too excited, the jet hasn’t even been built yet! The jets are expected to start carrying passengers in 2029. So we’ll have to wait for a while, but is it worth it?

Like any company, United Airlines has its consumers in mind every step of the way. And this is their attempt to get ahead of potentially changing expectations about travel time. While the supersonic jet may sound amazing to the company, if the experience isn’t great, then consumers will end up traveling like they always have. A shorter flight, with poor customer experience doesn’t sound all that fun. That is why United Airlines needs to do the research and understand their customers. What do they love now that can be translated to this Supersonic Jet experience.

Understanding the customers’ expectations will be the key to the success or downfall of this new product. United Airlines mentioned that it will be more comfortable than normal planes, while still being affordable. Will you be riding the supersonic jet when it comes out in 2029?
